Lake Bled is quite possibly the number one reason why many visitors decide to come to Slovenia and rightfully so. The beauty of this mountain lake is so mesmerising that we keep coming back over and over again. We have visited Lake Bled as a day trip, stayed here for days on end and we’ve explored it in every season and even experienced Lake Bled in winter.

We can honestly say that Lake Bled is among the most beautiful places we’ve ever seen, and we can’t recommend it enough. Many choose to visit Lake Bled as a day trip but there is so much to do, see and experience in and around Bled that we really think you should spend at least one night in this little slice of paradise. We know we spent more night in Bled than we can count and don’t regret any!

To help you find your perfect holiday stay we’ve gathered our top accommodation recommendations for everything from hostels to luxurious stays, as well as camping and holiday homes.

What you need to know before choosing your Bled accommodation

Make sure there’s parking

Parking in Bled is limited and the parking fees quickly add up so if you’re travelling by car it’s incredibly important you choose an accommodation option that provides a carpark. You have no idea how much time we wasted driving in circles trying to park our car so please don’t make the same mistake!

Book well in advance

Lake Bled is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Slovenia as well as a popular choice among locals. If you’re travelling in high season make sure to book your accommodation well ahead of time or you will be left with scraps. aka. expensive or just really not nice.

Lake Bled accommodation is on the expensive side

Bled gets a huge amount of tourists each year and the town can barely keep up with the increase in tourism. This means that in high season there’s not only a shortage of rooms, but as a result, hotels and guest houses have risen their prices. Higher demand, bigger bucks! It’s that simple. The interesting thing about Bled is that the prices stay fairly consistent throughout the year and don’t drop by much in the offseason.

A word of warning – Covid regulations

The Covid restrictions in Slovenia are changing fast and they often affect the operations of hotels and other businesses in the tourism sector. Due to government regulations some facilities might be closed or only operate in a limited capacity. This means there might be accommodation shortage due to limited availability or you won’t be able to use some of the facilities and amenities.

Where to stay in Lake Bled

The best area to base yourself while at Lake Bled is in Bled town on the Eastern shore of the lake. This is where the majority of bars, restaurants, shops and amenities are.

The neighbourhoods Mlino and Zaka on the Southern and Western side of the lake have limited facilities but might appeal to someone looking for a quiet retreat and easy access to hikes as well as the town.

The best accommodation in Lake Bled

Depending on your needs and style of travel you might be more or less inclined to stay in a hotel, private apartment, guesthouse, hostel or even campsite.

Below we break down the best options for each accommodation category.

If you want a no fuss holiday in Lake Bled so you can easily enjoy this postcard perfect location with all the facilities you could possibly need at your fingertip, then a hotel room with lake views in own is the perfect choice for you.

Grab a front row seat to the magical scenery that is Lake Bled and book yourself one of these fabulous hotels!

Splurge | Grand Hotel Toplice *****

Grand Hotel Toplice is the oldest, most established and most luxurious hotel in Lake Bled. This is the only 5-star establishment in Bled with a rich history and elegant rooms where you’ll be treated like a king. It sits perched on the shores of the lake and features a private beach, a spa, thermal pools and views to die for.

We especially liked the views and ambiance at the thermal pools but the rooms and the decor are not for everyone since the hotel prides itself on the rich history which shines through in the choice of decor and furnishing.

Upper end | Rikli Balance ****S

Rikli Balance 4-star superior hotel sits just behind Grand Hotel and is a true oasis with a modern interior, a more sustainable mindset and sweeping views over Lake Bled and the Julian Alps. Rikli Balance hotel also features the biggest thermal pool complex in Bled, and from what we’ve seen, the views from their Spa might be even better than the ones from Grand Hotel Toplice.

Just like Grand Hotel Toplice, Rikli Balance is also part of Sava Hotels & Resorts which we can always trust to provide the highest standard of hospitality. Unfortunately we didn’t get to experience it ourselves (yet!) due to Covid but we’re hoping to visit this year.

Mid range | Hotel Park ****

Hotel Park has been recently renovated and only reopened last year. Its location is just as fabulous as Grand Hotel Toplice (literally next door), but the interior is modern, beautiful and brand new for a much more affordable price. On the top floor you’ll find a wellness centre complete with a heated pool, sauna and gym, all featuring panoramic windows and breathtaking views over the lake and park.

Hotel Park Bled is a fabulous choice for foodies as it the home of the original Bled Cake and their in house restaurant Julijana received the the Michelin Plate.

Best guest houses and boutique hotels in Lake Bled

For those of you wanting the best of both worlds – the service of a hotel and a cosy feel, a small boutique hotel or guest house is the go.

Splurge | Vila Bled ****

Vila Bled used to be former President Tito’s summer palace and has since been turned into a beautiful boutique hotel on the southern shores of Lake Bled. Vila Bled is surrounded by perfectly manicured gardens on a peaceful property removed from the crowds and features a private swimming deck just opposite the 99 stairs of Lake Bled Island.

This elegant establishment has a wonderful restaurant with fabulous views, a tennis court, pool, sauna and even a piano bar! The rooms are big and comfortable. Vila Bled is the perfect choice for someone looking for a peaceful retreat and great service.

Upper end | Old Parish House ****

As the name suggests, this hotel used to be an old parish house and it sits next to the St. Martina Parish Church in Bled town, just under the cliff on which the castle is perched. The location can’t get much better and the building has been wonderfully renovated.

The Old Parish House offers ample parking and we absolutely love the flowers on the windows. The hotel decided to ride with the history and went for a fairly religious decor which might not appeal to everyone, but the furnishing is modern and new.

Mid-Range | Vila Alpina ****

Vila Alpina is a gorgeous Alpine cottage inspired guest house in the Mlino settlement on the Southern shores of the lake, just a coupe of minutes walk to the lake and about 20min walk to town.

The rooms are spacious, light and gorgeous. We fell in love with all the wooden detailing and think Vila Alpina could easily pass for a higher end establishment. Vila Alpina is a great value choice, the hosts are super friendly and helpful, and the terrace is the perfect spot to chill from.

Comfy beds at The Best Hostel

Hostels

Hostels are a great spot to meet people, make new friends and find new travel buddies. We did our fair share of hostel life and we can honestly say it doesn’t get much more fun than that!

The Best Hostel might sound a bit pretentious but it has a fabulous location, new facilities and the hosts are great. By staying here you’ll also get a bracelet that gives you discounts for several restaurants and activities around town. But keep in mind that if you’re travelling with someone, you might get a better deal by booking a budget guesthouse in Bled since hostel beds aren’t as cheap as you’d expect them.
