Dubrovnik has some of the best hotels in Croatia, but it also has plenty of overpriced stays coasting on the city’s good looks.
A high room rate here does not automatically mean a great hotel, especially once you factor in crowds, access, beach access, views, service, and how easy it is to actually enjoy the city from your base.
I’ve visited Dubrovnik many times over the years, including on recent Croatia trips, and these are the Dubrovnik hotels I’d actually shortlist for a memorable stay. I’ve tried to give you a good mix of landmark five-star hotels, romantic sea-view escapes, boutique Old Town stays and polished beach resorta in Dubrovnik.
This is not a directory of every nice-looking hotel in Dubrovnik. It’s a curated list of the best hotels in Dubrovnik, Croatia, based on location, character, facilities, views, guest experience, and whether the stay feels worth the splurge.

Hilton Imperial Dubrovnik first opened its doors in 1897 and has welcomed several famous people throughout the decades. Among them, the Irish writer, George Bernard Shaw, stayed there in 1929. 7 years later, King Edward VIII and his wife visited and are said to have enjoyed tea and danced in the opulent garden.
The building was renovated in 2005. The exterior is beautiful with elegant white and terracotta walls and ornate bronze decorations. The hotel is a sophisticated fusion of 19th-century grandeur and modern comfort. Make sure you ask for a front-facing room for views of the old town which is only a couple of minutes’ walk away.

Best Beach Hotels in Dubrovnik and Lapad
Besides the 5 star beachside hotels mentioned above, like Hotel Excelsior and Hotel Bellevue Dubrovnik, your best bet is to head to Lapad for the best beach hotels. Dubrovnik’s finest beaches are located in Lapad and while it is a little bit further away from the old town, you can easily get there by bus or a 30-45 minute walk along the promenade.

Getting to Dubrovnik, Croatia
By Air: Dubrovnik is served by Dubrovnik Airport (DBV), about 30–40 minutes from the Old Town depending on traffic. Book a private transfer from the airport to your hotel for the easiest arrival, especially if you’re staying near Old Town, Pile, Ploče, or somewhere up a hill.
By Sea: Dubrovnik can be reached by ferry from nearby islands and other Croatian coastal destinations. Ferries arrive in Gruž, where you’ll also find the main bus station, so this area is practical if you’re arriving by ferry or planning onward travel.
By Car: Driving to Dubrovnik gives you flexibility for day trips, but parking near the Old Town is limited and expensive. The historic center is pedestrian-only, and Dubrovnik restricts vehicle access around the historic core and buffer zone from March 1 to November 30, with entry allowed only under specific conditions. Visitors can use pre-booked parking at Pile or below the Cable Car, hotel/private accommodation parking arrangements, or approved vehicle access.
By Bus: Dubrovnik is easy to reach by bus, with direct connections from major Croatian cities like Split and Zagreb. The main bus station is in Gruž, and local buses, taxis, and Uber connect it with Old Town, Pile, Ploče, Lapad, and Babin Kuk.
Important 2026 Dubrovnik traffic update
From March 1 to November 30 2026, Dubrovnik has restricted vehicle access around the historic core and buffer zone. If you’re driving check whether your accommodation can arrange access into the restricted area, and avoid driving in without permission, even if just for drop off.
There is also a prepaid parking reservation system for the Pile and Cable Car parking areas.
Getting around Dubrovnik
Getting around Dubrovnik is easy. The Old Town is a pedestrian zone and where everything is within walking distance. If you’re staying outside the Old Town there are taxis and public buses that will get you to the city walls. For a different view, consider boat or kayak trips along the coast to experience the city from the water.
Best time to visit Dubrovnik, Croatia
The best time to visit Dubrovnik is in April and October, when the weather is warm but the tourist crowds are thinner and you can score some good deals.
The high season in Dubrovnik runs from May to September and this is when things really heat up—literally! If visiting in the summer months be ready for crowds, higher prices, and the scorching sun.
The winter in Dubrovnik is mild and pleasant. While you won’t be able to enjoy the beach as much, you’ll be able to score some good deals. The city is still lively, but without the insane crowds it sees in high season.

How early should you book hotels in Dubrovnik?
For June to September, I’d book Dubrovnik hotels as early as possible, especially if you want a sea-view room, Old Town boutique hotel, or one of the top luxury hotels. The best hotels in Dubrovnik do sell out, and last-minute prices can get stupid in peak summer.
Is it worth staying in a luxury hotel in Dubrovnik?
Yes, if you’ll actually use the hotel. Dubrovnik can be crowded and intense in summer, so a luxury hotel with a pool, sea access, spa, terrace, or proper views can make the trip feel much calmer. If you’ll only sleep there and spend all day out sightseeing, a boutique hotel or well-located guesthouse may be better value.
Are Dubrovnik Old Town hotels worth it?
Old Town hotels are worth it if you want atmosphere and easy sightseeing, especially for a short stay. But check the exact location before booking. Many Old Town stays involve stairs, pedestrian-only streets, and no direct taxi drop-off, which can be annoying with heavy luggage.

Do hotels in Dubrovnik usually have parking?
