Falkensteiner Hotel & Spa Iadera is one of the best luxury hotels near Zadar if you want sea views, spa time, pools, good food, and a proper resort escape rather than a city break inside the Old Town.

I stayed here during my Zadar trip and honestly, this is the kind of hotel that makes it very easy to do absolutely nothing. The bathtub with a view, the spa, the poolside lounging, the food, the sea air, the quiet Punta Skala setting… it all feels designed to make you slow down. Dangerous stuff if you had ambitious sightseeing plans.

That said, this is not a hotel I’d recommend to everyone. Falkensteiner Iadera is in Punta Skala, near Petrčane, about 15 minutes by car from Zadar Old Town. So if you want to walk to restaurants, bars, the Sea Organ, and the Roman Forum every day, stay in Zadar instead.

But if you want a 5-star beach resort near Zadar with serious spa energy, this is one of the strongest options.

The main thing to understand is that Punta Skala feels more like a self-contained seaside resort than a regular hotel stay. That is great if you want pools, spa time, beach access, restaurants, sports facilities and easy resort logistics. It is less ideal if your priority is walking into Zadar Old Town every night.

The Location

Falkensteiner Punta Skala Resort is located in Petrcane, Croatia, just a 15 minute drive North from the old town of Zadar. It sits at the tip of an exclusive peninsula and is surrounded by some of the most beautiful beaches in the area. While lying on the beach here you’ll enjoy a breathtaking backdrop of mountains on one side and endless islands on the other.

From Punta Skala you can easily explore the surrounding area; walk to Kraljevski Vinogradi for a marvellous wine tasting experience, hop into Zadar old town, explore Nin, find the most beautiful secluded bays of the Vrsi Peninsula, do a day trip to Krka, Plitvice or Paklenica National Park, do a boat trip to the nearby islands, and so much more. From here it really is just a stone-throw to some of the most amazing places in Croatia!

We were hosted by Falkensteiner Hotel & Spa Iadera and we honestly believe this is one of the best hotels in Zadar and one of the best 5 star hotels in Croatia.

We were a bit unlucky with the weather and didn’t get to enjoy the beach as much as we hoped, but the hotel and its spa are so beautiful that we didn’t mind spending more time inside.

Who Should Book Falkensteiner Hotel & Spa Iadera?

You should book Falkensteiner Hotel & Spa Iadera if you want one of the best luxury hotels near Zadar for a beach, spa, and wellness-focused stay. This is the kind of place I’d choose for a romantic escape, a quiet reset, a low-effort resort holiday, or the end of a busy Croatia itinerary when you want to stop moving for a few days.

It is especially good if you want a hotel with proper facilities: pools, spa areas, sea views, restaurants, parking, and enough space that you don’t feel boxed into the city. I also think it works well if you’re traveling by car, because you can easily visit Zadar Old Town, Nin, nearby beaches, and day trip spots without needing to sleep in the middle of town.

You should skip it if your main priority is being in Zadar Old Town. Iadera is not the best choice if you want to walk to restaurants every night, drink by the Sea Organ, stay out late, or use Zadar as a busy sightseeing base without a car. In that case, choose one of the best hotels in Zadar closer to the Old Town instead.

Quick verdict: Falkensteiner Hotel & Spa Iadera is worth booking if you want a luxury spa and beach resort near Zadar, not a city hotel. It is best for couples, spa breaks, beach escapes, slow resort days, and travelers with a car. It is not ideal if you want nightlife, budget accommodation, or walking-distance access to Zadar Old Town.

The Service

Falkensteiner Hotel & Spa Iadera‘s service is everything you would expect from a 5 star hotel and more. The staff is extremely helpful and very kind and they speak perfect English and German.

They offer valet parking, laundry & dry cleaning services as well as fabulous room service. From the receptionist to the porter, and even the maintenance staff, they’ll do whatever they can to make your holiday one to remember.

 

 

The Vibe

Iadera is that perfect mix of sophisticated and chill, and we love its dog friendly policy. While not technically an adults only resort, here you’ll find more four legged companions than children. This hotel is mostly frequented by couples and it’s also perfect for a girls getaway.

We visited Falkensteiner Hotel & Spa Iadera in the shoulder season and found our little slice of peace and quiet here. We imagine it can get quite busy and lively in summer, after all the, the Sotto Voce bar is the perfect place to watch the sunset and mingle with the other guests.

 

 

The Design

Falkensteiner Hotel & Spa Iadera is an architecturally impressive building shaped like a wave to showcase the sea views. Inside, the curved spaces feature huge skylights, airy spaces and indoor gardens.

The hotel went for maritime theme and a nautical design style with plenty of blue, but in our opinion they might have taken it a tad too far when it comes to the rooms. The blue walls can be somewhat overwhelming and we found the blue and green tile mosaics to be a little bit tacky.

On the other hand the public areas were a lot brighter and we loved the little Bali inspired corners throughout the resort with hanging egg chairs, love swings, rattan furniture and loads of white.

 

 

The Rooms

We stayed in a Sea Side Junior Suite and loved it (minus the blue). The suite is spacious, the mattress comfortable, the day bed is the perfect spot to chill and the bath… did we mention the bath?! Who doesn’t love a good bath with ocean views?

The rooms at Iadera hotel have an open concept bathroom with a privacy curtain, double sink and massive shower. The toilet is tucked away behind a wooden changing room-inspired door. All rooms come with a balcony and ours boasted fabulous ocean and pool views and was big enough for two sun beds as well as a sitting area.

We did not get a chance to turn our TV on, but the internet was fast and we even got reception in some areas on the beach. Big thumbs up for that! However, we would have liked better lighting options and more power outlets in the room.

 

The Food

We got the half board at Falkensteiner Hotel & Spa Iadera which included a marvellous buffet style breakfast and gourmet dinner at Restauran Jadran. I swear I’d go back just for the food, that’s how good it was!

Let’s start with breakfast. Barista coffee and fresh orange juice are served at the table inside the restaurant or the terrace in front. The breakfast buffet has a wide offer of quality food and includes an egg station, a fruit juicer and bubbles station.

You can choose between sweet and savoury, hot or cold, pancakes, cheeses, cured meats, all sorts of jams and spreads, freshly baked bread, fruit and more. The quality and variety of the breakfast is among the best we’ve ever experienced.

 

 

Dinner at Jadran Restaurant is a multi course experience with a combination of buffet and a la carte. There is a self serve salad bar, a cold starter station, as well as a buffet for cheese, cured meats and fruit.

The hot starter and main are served at the table and you can choose between three options for each. This really helps in creating a fine dining experience. The food is beautifully presented and, as always, the service is outstanding.

As you enter the restaurant you’ll notice a big wine fridge with a generous selection of local and international wines. The drink menu is extensive as well. During our stay there was only one desert option (or you could get a cheese board) but we believe there is more variety during high season.

Unfortunately our stay was too short to try the food at Bracera Fish Restaurant and Steak House Planika but we did have a light lunch at the Aquapura Spa Bistro before our treatment and it was delicious.

 

 

Aquapura | The Spa

Although part of the Iadera hotel, Aquapura Spa with its 6000 square meters of pure bliss, deserves a chapter of its own. The Spa spans over several floors and boosts a large outdoor and indoor area with pools, saunas, gym and various relaxation and treatment areas.

At the Aquapura Spa you’ll even find a fabulous Turkish Hammam as part of the so called Black Spa where you’re kindly asked to leave your swimwear behind. Here you can indulge in hot baths and saunas or relax on suspended beds while listening to relaxing sounds of nature.

You can choose from a vast range of spa treatments; from facials to massages, milk baths, hamam treatments, mani & pedi, and more.

We opted for the Hamam meets Dalmatia treatment and it was divine! There’s nothing quite like the feeling of soft, warm foam wrapping your body, a moment of joy and pure relaxation.
